GO M.A.D.

 Go MAD

The emotion of being mad takes effect on a person when they feel they have been mistreated or have been offended.  But today we want to look at the word mad in order to focus on what can be done.

Many times in our world we find that we cannot depend on things to get better because time passed.  It takes energy for things to change and this happens when someone uses their ability to Make A Difference.  Making a difference takes more than just good thoughts and intentions, it takes actions that move forward towards a goal.

Making a difference will not happen because someone points out a problem.  Making a difference happens when a person notices a problem, evaluates the issue and then commits to use their abilities, resources and connections to bring about a change in the life of another.

John Randolph said, “The richer, the wiser, the more powerful a man is, the greater is the obligation upon him to employ his gifts in the lessening of the sum of human misery.”

Is it within you today?  The ability to commit to a task to make life better for someone who needs help.  How can you employ your special powers to lessen the sum of human misery?

“He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Prov. 11:25

This is not double talk here.  Use of your own giftedness to its full potential offers the person using the gift causes maximum fulfillment and minimum frustration.

May God bless you to know His presence, peace and safety as you seek to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to our world.  May there be a fusillade of grace, by way of direction, connecting, compassion that grant you success in your efforts to offer support and hope to patients and their families in the future….  Amen

The IMAGE we offer

The Image we offer

NKJ 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

I have noticed along with this new way of communicating in meetings on the computer screen, that we have to deal with how we look in a new way.

I have been in some meetings where the person on the other end does not want anyone to see them due to their hairstyle or the fact that they do not have on makeup.  I wonder with this way of thinking, do we consider our image as that of the image of God upon us.

Our opening verse offers an amazing idea that we are being transformed into the image of the Son of God.  Before Paul mentions the fact that we are bearing and becoming more like Christ he offers that we are also being freed by the power of the Holy Ghost.  This freedom being effected by God, the Holy Ghost and is happening on the inside, shaping our inner person to be more like God.

Think of your relationship with God today…

Describe a point of your relationship with God that helps you to know that you are His child, a skill you have noticed or behavioral type that has come over you, or even a sense of His presence that you have been aware of like the fruit of the Spirit when you did not even know it was happening but realized after a situation that happened….

God, The Holy Ghost is shaping you into the image of Jesus Christ as you walk with him daily.  Notice other places in your life that The Holy Ghost could shape and change you because He is successfully working on your being to shape you into the express image of Christ.  God works on his children in many ways and this is one of them.

Look at what that familiar passage in James 1 says:

James 1(ESV)

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

James is informing us that we are changed by looking into the divine mirror of the Lord which is the scripture. In the Word we learn, practice, and change more and more into the likeness of Christ as we continue to depend upon the powerful Word of God to guide, confront, comfort and complete our training in our personal Christian experience.  But he also says that we have the responsibility of putting into practice what scripture teaches in order for the special purposes of God to become a reality in our lives.

The Bible is a powerful mirror helping us to see ourselves and giving us some context for our relationship with God.  God shapes and molds us each day, even on the dull days when nothing seems to happen.  He molds us into the amazing image of Christ little by little.  Remember that God is the One and Only Creator who made the World as we know it with no material. Why would He not be able to shape and mold His children into an image of His choosing pleasing those you know well.

Looking into the mirror of God’s Word makes changes in us for advancement of His glory and our good.  Look into the mirror of God's Word today.

Care Givers are Superheroes

Melissa Roberts, counselor and life coach

Caregivers are Superheroes in their own right.
Sometimes when you are in the midst of caring or catering to others you tend to loose sight of your needs.
I am Marvel comic lover of the superhero. I think it's amazing when you think about it. They start out being average, normal individuals who really at first don't want to step into that role but something happens and they feel almost compelled to. Their superpower is then identified because they have been forced in some cases to have to step in and be that one to respond immediately.

Take for instance one of my favorite superheroes one that everyone would know, Superman - who is not from this world, but was sent to earth because his home - Krypton was being destroyed and his parents wanted him to be saved. He finds himself in this place, doesn't really know that the parents that raised him are his adoptive parents and that he is not like everyone else, not of this world. Not until he figures it out and then he has a choice to make.
Will I use these powers for good or for evil? Caregivers make this choice also and decide how to tell their story, their superpower...

You use your superpower for the care of others.  Take time to refresh your spirit and renew your heart.  Come to the ACGR 2021.

How do you Retreat?

How do you Retreat?

You may be planning to come to the ACGR 2021 and are ready to retreat.  But you may be asking yourself, "How do I prepare for the retreat?"
Retreating is not a vacation.  Vacations vary from doing absolutely nothing to going about so much that you need rest afterwards.  But a retreat is much different.  It is a time set aside to renew your heart, refresh your spirit and regroup or evaluate your own life, some of what you may counsel your care receiver to do.
Well, here are some important things to remember as you get ready to reflect, refresh and renew so that you can recreate your mind towards the important task that you do each day.

This year's event theme is 'The Our of this World, Meet and Greet'
You may want to dress up in something that shows you as out of this world like a superhero or an alien or angel.  You may have a better idea of a costume that shows that caregivers are Out of this World.

You may already know that we will be meeting this year at Dunaway Gardens in Newnan, Ga.  Dunaway Gardens is a beautiful landscape of manicured gardens in the far corner of Newnan.  You will connect with nature and others as they reflect upon their lives and their calling.

As you prepare for the retreat it is good to remember that the Gardens are out in nature.  That means that we suggest that you dress down for this event.  Very comfortable outside clothes will be best.  Make sure you wear rubber bottom shoes or sneakers/ tennis shoes as you will be walking along wet rocky areas in the morning and grass that may be slippery.
Everyone should remember to bring something to sit on while in the gardens, the ground will be moist and this will help you be comfortable in nature.

            Just for your information!
We are looking for the person who can illustrate in their costume, the way that care givers are Out of this World!  How can you put this idea into words or a costume?  Think about it.

I think it is always great to bring a friend.  Most care givers have a little group they connect with for support in the field.  This is important, so bring your little support circle and attend together.
You may ask any questions to my email or on this blog to prep for a great time.
We will see you on the 3rd of June at 9am.

Change in Plans for the ACGR 2021

The Out of this World, Meet and Greet

Have you taken care of yourself lately?

Care giving, is one of the most stressful tasks that anyone can take on.  As a provider of care you are responsible for the wellbeing of those who would lack many needed services, services that may cause illness, pain, and stress.  That’s a big job.

Yet, in order to care for someone else, one must effectively take time to care for oneself. You must take time to Reflect, Restore and Recreate your own emotional vitality.   This is done by stepping away from a busy schedule and taking a breath of fresh air.

We are returning to Dunaway Gardens in Newnan, Ga

You are invited to attend ‘The Annual Care Giver Retreat’ among other caregivers just like yourself.  All attendees will be given one agenda.  That will be the task of Reflection, so that each may Restore his/her weary spirits and be involved in Recreating the attitude which has peace, purpose, and hope.

The Retreat will be held by Chaplain Horace Cutter, M.Div., BCPC.  Chaplain Cutter and other spiritual care givers will lead the caregiver retreat in activities, reflective readings and times of solitude that will bring opportunity for margin.

It is Chaplain Cutter’s aim to schedule a time of Reflection which many nurses, social workers, hospice and healthcare workers do not get during the busy schedule they keep.  Come among the beautiful scenery at Dunaway Gardens to sooth your soul and quiet your spirit.

   Date:  Thursday, June 3rd

   Time:  9:00 am- 4:30pm,

Beginning with a mild breakfast, lunch on your own.  The attendance fee for the Retreat is $25.00.  Register by May 26th  After 5-26, the fee is $35.00 (call Chaplain Cutter (770-969-8354).

Participants will meet at Dunaway Gardens, Ga

When is it time to retreat?

When is it time for a retreat?

When you feel tired when you get to work.

When you are irritated by offering care to your patients for a change.

When you do not have fulfillment in providing care to your care receiver.

When you want to bring your patient home with you and cannot release from work.

Care giving may be your gift but you can run out of the essential resource to continue offering care.   You could be out of energy but don't know it.  You may be experiencing compassion fatigue from offering 'Life on Life' care.  You may be having symptoms of Moral Injury without knowing.

There is a way to overcome the devastating affects of this real problem.  Take a retreat.

Taking a break from your tasks as a care giver is important for your health, physical, mental and emotional.  Being able to find a place to renew is difficult because our world rewards progress and activity.

The ACGR is designed to offer professional care givers a place to grow learn, reflect and renew their spirit so they will be effective in caring for their care receiver.

Come to the Out of this World Retreat, Meet and Greet

Finding Support In the Crisis- Covid-19 Relief

The Unseen Enemy

A reaction to the Coronavirus epidemic

From: Devotional - April 3, 2020

When I look back on my life, I can remember many things that I have had to face.  Good relationships, challenging experiences, highs and very low lows that did make me feel small feeble and inadequate.  Let me tell you, this is how I have felt for a long time, as long as I can remember.  Just for one memory, I was in 3rd grade and out on the playground with all of the other 3rd graders.  I was playing with other kids as we all were out there playing together.   I can remember running after the ball to get it, I think we were playing kickball and another kid that I do not know looks at me and says, “Hey kid, you are supposed to be inside. The kindergarteners have all gone inside already.  This was my typical day in elementary school.  Being small feeble and inadequate.

Going through the challenges of being a small guy have been difficult to say the least but I have learned to cope with it pretty well.  But I did because I could see the challenge by knowing who to look out for or to view the issue at hand.  I have grown used to knowing who the enemy was by seeing them and reacting to them in person.  But in the event of this virus of today.  I can say that it is very unnerving to face what I cannot see and change my own behavior due to the word of mouth of reports on TV or internet or news from friends and family.

The unseen enemy is something that I have not gotten used to facing.  This is funny since I am a minister and do believe that we face Satan as the enemy of mankind.   As a Christian minister, I really do believe there is an unseen enemy, Satan and I have been preaching and practicing the reality of Satan’s presence in the world around me.  But a physical unseen enemy makes it even more insidious to what we know.   I guess I need to look at the show the Invisible man and how the people in the movie portrayed this presence of this person (just a thought).   Having an enemy that we all are reacting to is different than the presence of an evil spirit that plans to destroy my life.  I guess that is what this whole time reiterates for me.  That there is an unseen predator that is lurking behind any and maybe every corner to take us all down.

There is another way of facing the threat to life in this dangerous life and that is to turn from focusing on the unseen enemy and turn to face the unseen friend, The Holy Spirit.  The unseen enemy is real and a threat to life just like we have had other threats throughout history but me focusing on the threat and cowering until it comes to meet me at my front door is not the way to face the great challenges of life. I believe that we have the presence of the Holy Spirit here with us because He is even more real than the reality of the virus.  He is our unseen friend.   Jesus Christ promised at the time near his crucifixion that he would send the Holy Ghost to dwell with us.  He called Him the Comforter, now isn’t that appropriate?

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.  Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because is seeth him not, neither knoweth him but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”  John 14:16-18

Jesus said that this Comforter would be with us forever and if we believe this, we must act appropriately.  I don’t believe that we are to act like there is no virus but to approach life with a sense of urgency in matters of responsibility, love and faith.  If we focus on the virus, we will certainly miss out on delivering love and patience to family and friends who need it.  If we turn to the Comforter and ask for ways to support our loved ones, there will be a better outcome.  When we turn towards the Comforter with a responsible attitude for who we are to care for or what we have been called to do, we can expect for the Comforter to help us to be responsible and not cower in fear.  The World (cosmos) will not have a sense of the presence of the Comforter because Jesus clearly said that the World doesn’t know Him nor do they see Him.

There is something else I have to say about the presence of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus said that He would reprove the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.  (John 16:8 with the word reprove, meaning > convince or convict).  If we think about it.  We are convicted by our own attitude towards the threats of the world.  Do we really believe that the Comforter is present with us or do we believe that we are the only help and source of strength in life?  A believer and unbeliever would answer this question differently.

We do not live with a focus on the threat but with a focus on our particular calling in life.  Turning to the unseen enemy we live in fear and looking over our shoulders at every curve in life.  But, Turning to the unseen friend, we can still live in a world where troubles are abounding on every hand.  The hope that we had in Jesus in the presence of the Holy Ghost is still the hope that He offers to His believers in the very midst of seen and unseen dangers.  Remember the song 'What a Friend we have in Jesus'

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

A good look at the support of the Holy Ghost through the ages clearly teaches that God can handle what seen and unseen dangers we may face.

I began writing these thoughts back in April but now it is March.  What makes this significant is that my own father was on this side of eternity at that time as I turned over this idea for many months.  But before he passed, which was a sudden shock to us all, he told me that we walk by faith, not by sight.  This passage was one of my father’s favorite passages because I remember the passion that he had as he quoted to scripture reminding us that the gift of the Holy Ghost was a promise from Jesus.  This promise has been kept and the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit is what we need to remember as we face the Covid-19 virus.  Turning from focusing on the presence of the unseen enemy and turning towards the reality of the unseen friend who cares for our every need and will help us face all dangers.  No matter what they may be.
